Melissa was supposed to visit yesterday but got distracted on her way to Blackhaven by a nail salon. She rolled into the car park and made her way inside. She hated the look, the smell, the atmosphere, everything about the place. She carried her purse on her shoulder and a small black Jean Paul Gaultier overnight bag in her other hand containing clothes, an electric razor, books, toiletries and some photo albums. She wasn’t bringing him photos to be nice, it was her idea of getting rid of them out of the house because they were of no interest to her despite being full of pictures of her, her daughter and husband.

She rapped on the door quickly, tapping her heel on the floor and rolling her eyes at her surroundings.

Scott got up and opened the door to his room, smiling even though he was dissapointed to see her. “Hello, Melissa.” He stepped back. He was scruffy, his hair getting a bit long, but it suited him. He looked relaxed and happy. Things were going well for him. His daughter had come back to his bed, her ‘boyfriend’ was locked away, and all the stresses of work and life had long since been forgotten.

She kissed him on the cheek quickly, visibly disappointed with his appearance, practically shoving the bag towards him. ‘There’s a shaver in there.’ A very subtle hint. Looking around the room didn’t make her feel any better, it was small and basic. ‘And some other things.’ She muttered, inspecting a chair before sitting on it and crossing one leg over the other.
